Courses can have different tracking modes that inform how it reports data to an LMS or LRS. There are several tracking modes to choose from.
SCORM tracking
If you’re choosing to release your course as a SCORM package, you should ensure you're using the appropriate SCORM version (or tracking mode). The tracking mode determines how the course will judge the learner's success and report it to your Learning Management System (LMS).
The available versions are:
- SCORM 1.2
- SCORM 2004 (2nd edition)
- SCORM 2004 (3rd edition)
- SCORM 2004 (4th edition)
Each tracking mode has slight differences in the way they track success which you may want to consider before releasing your course. For a more detailed breakdown about the differences between the two versions, see Understanding the differences between SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004.
Note: If you're using the Online Link release mode, you do not need to apply a SCORM tracking mode. |
Applying a SCORM tracking mode to your Project
1. Go to your Project
2. Select Configure
3. Switch to the Learner tracking tab
4. Choose an option from the Tracking mode drop down
- SCORM 1.2: sets the tracking mode to SCORM 1.2. All SCORM releases created from the Project will now use the SCORM 1.2 version.
- SCORM 2004: sets the tracking mode to SCORM 2004. All SCORM releases created from the Project will now use the SCORM 2004 (2nd edition) version.
5. If you choose SCORM 1.2:
Choose your preferred success verb from the drop-down labeled Mark completed courses as (SCORM 1.2 only).
- Completed: the learner's success is judged based on their progress which is achieved by completing pages and interacting with elements on the page.
- Passed: the learner's success is judged based on their score which is achieved by correctly answering questions.
If you choose SCORM 2004:
There is no need to choose a success verb as both success verbs are used simultaneously.
6. Select Save
Caution: If you have changed the SCORM version of a release that has already been uploaded to your LMS, this change will not be passed on to the live version via a re-release. Instead, you must export the new version from Elucidat and re-upload the SCORM package to your LMS. |
xAPI tracking
You can also add xAPI tracking to your courses so they can report xAPI data to an LRS.
xAPI tracking can be used with both the SCORM for LMS and Online Link release modes. For more information, see Adding xAPI learner tracking to your course.
