Adding videos from YouTube

You can embed videos from YouTube into your courses rather than upload it directly to the platform. Embedding from YouTube can be a useful alternative when a video resource is too large to be uploaded to Elucidat or if you already have video content in YouTube that you’d like to reuse.

Videos embedded from YouTube can be used in conjunction with Elucidat’s page completion functionality. This means watching a YouTube video to the end can count towards a learner’s progress which, in turn, defines whether they have completed the page. For more information about how to do this, see Setting completion requirements on your course pages.

Before you begin

YouTube videos must be embedded in a video player part. If you haven’t added a video player to your course, you’ll need to do this before adding the YouTube video.

You can learn how to do this in Adding a video player to your page.

Embedding a YouTube video in a video player

  1. Select the Edit menu on the top right corner of the video player to open the player configuration controls.

  3. Select Youtube/embed
  4. Copy the URL from the YouTube video page and paste it into the Youtube/Embed URL field

  5. Select the Save button to the right of the field to add the video to the player
  6. Save the page

Note: Avoid using the embed HTML from the video. The URL from your address bar is sufficient in order to display the video correctly.
