Release highlights

Today’s release brings lots of great new functionality to Create. Read on to find out more about each new feature.

Introducing releases: a new way to publish courses

We have re-built the way Projects are exported from the platform. The new workflow introduces releases. You can now access the new release workflow by clicking Export in your Project‘s top toolbar.

What is a release?

A release is a fixed snapshot of your course that Elucidat hosts for you.

Previously, the only way to publish your course was to export a SCORM package directly from the Project. These packages were stand-alone and self-contained. This made things like versioning difficult. If you made a change to your learning, you had to export a new package and re-upload it to your LMS—there was no way to update it directly from the platform.

Now, instead of packaging all your content into a heavy, static SCORM file, you can export a lightweight SCORM wrapper that connects back to our servers or generate a web link that can be launched in a browser. Content is served directly from Elucidat, giving learners faster load times, more reliable delivery, and a consistent experience for whichever method you use.

What are the benefits?

  • New Online Link release format
Online Link courses can be launched directly in a browser and are a great option if you don’t have a Learning Management System (LMS) or if you need to distribute the same course across several environments. Online Link avoids repeated exports and uploads. One hosted release can be used everywhere.
  • Update courses instantly with re-release
Because the content is hosted in the cloud, you can update a release directly and immediately from Elucidat without replacing anything in your LMS or distributing new links.
  • Releases use our bookmarking micro-service
When a learner returns, their score, progress, and position is retrieved from our servers rather than being restored by a limited encoded string. This effectively removes the constraints of traditional suspend data.

Note
Re-release cannot be used with directly exported SCORM packages made prior to this release. You’ll need to create a new release and upload it to your LMS to benefit from re-release.

Enhanced tracking with xAPI

Lastly, we’ve also added the ability to set up integrations with a Learning Record Store (LRS) which enable your courses to report xAPI data to multiple endpoints at once.

xAPI (sometimes called TinCan) stands for Experience API and is typically reported to and viewed in a Learning Record Store (LRS). In elearning, it is used to track learner data in a more holistic way than traditional SCORM reporting.

Note

These release notes focus on major new features, improvements, and bug fixes that users will experience directly. Unlike a detailed changelog which lists all technical changes, these notes highlight the most important updates.

Our team is constantly working on essential background improvements, including backend systems, infrastructure, and preparation for future features. While this parallel work is not listed here, it is strategically planned and executed alongside the visible improvements described in these notes.
