User Roles contain a set of permissions that define which areas of the platform a user can access and what actions they can take. If you need to check the specific permissions included in a role, you can see this on the User Management page.
| Note: User Role permissions relate to actions and access to certain areas of the platform; the permissions list does not provide information about which Projects a user can access. Project access is defined by a user‘s Access Level. To learn more, see Understanding User Roles and Access Levels. |
Before you begin
The Elucidat User Management interface is shared by both Elucidat Author and Elucidat Create but each platform has its own user roles and access levels that need to be configured individually. To learn how to access the User Management page from each platform, see Accessing the User Management page.
Checking the overview of permissions in a role
Select User Roles from the side-bar menu to show the list of roles. You can use the Author and Create tabs at the top of the list to switch between your list of User Roles in each platform.
On each User Role, you can also see how many users are assigned to a user role in the Users column. This can be helpful to quickly understand the scale of a potential change to permissions.
There is also an indicator that shows an overview of the scale of permissions in each category.
| Icon | Meaning | Description |
| Fully enabled | Indicates all permissions in that category have been enabled. | |
| Partially enabled | Indicates some permissions in that category have been enabled. | |
| None enabled | Indicates that none of the permissions in that category have been enabled. |

Information about Elucidat Create roles
There are three preset User Roles in Create—unlike in Author, with Advanced User Management, these User Roles cannot be modified nor can new ones be created.
While you can see these roles in the overview, it is not possible to see or modify the specific permissions for each role.
