If you have released your elearning as a SCORM for LMS or Online Link with identification switched on, your learners’ personally identifiable information (PII) will be collected and reported to Elucidat’s Analytics when they access the course. This will usually be their name and email address.
You can see this information in both the Your Data dashboard and its data download.
You can prevent your learners’ PII from being visible in Elucidat’s Analytics while still collecting their usage data by enabling data anonymization.
Understanding how this affects learner data
When a learner’s data has been anonymized, their name and email will permanently obfuscated and replaced with ***** .
Anonymization applies to all existing learners of a course and all new learners that take it in the future. Here is a break-down of how it works for each.
-
New learners
Accessing an anonymized course permanently obfuscates a learner’s name and email address in Elucidat’s Analytics in all instances, for all time. -
Existing learners
When data anonymization is enabled, all learners whose data has been reported to Analytics for that course will be instantly anonymized in all instances, for all time.
There is no way for you or anyone at Elucidat to identify the learner once obfuscated.
A release will not become anonymized as a result of an obfuscated user accessing it—you must manually enable anonymization for each Project where it is required.
Before you enable this option
Carefully consider the following before enabling anonymization for your Project.
- This process is irreversible. Once a Project has been anonymized, it cannot be undone.
- Once a learner’s data has been anonymized, their PII will remain obfuscated for all time. It cannot be restored by you or anyone at Elucidat to its original state.
- Data anonymization is applied to Projects and, by extension, all releases created from them. You cannot anonymize a specific release. If you’d like to avoid enabling this feature but you would also like to prevent a specific release from collecting PII from your learners, then you might consider creating an unrestricted Online Link release instead as this release type does not collect PII.
- Learner data will only be anonymized in Elucidat’s Analytics. Applying anonymization will not obfuscate learner data in your LMS.
- The xAPI data of users whose personally identifiable information has been anonymized may not be reported to the LRS when taking an xAPI-enabled Online Link course.
Enabling anonymization in your Project
Only Administrators are permitted to anonymize data.
- Select the Gear icon in Your Data in the Project you’d like to anonymize.
- Confirm your choice.
-
No: apply data anonymization for the Project and its releases
All learners who have already taken elearning created from the anonymized Project will have their PII obfuscated from that point onwards in all instances. All learners that take elearning created from the anonymized Project will have their PII obfuscated from that point onwards in all instances. - Yes: continue collecting PII for learners
For more information about how we process and look after your data, see our Compliance section.
When an anonymized Project is duplicated, the resulting Project will also be anonymized too. If you‘d like to make a copy of your Project without anonymizing it, we recommend importing the pages into a new Project instead. To learn more about this, see Importing pages from another Project
