Overview
Having your elearning available in different languages allows your content to reach a wider global audience. Using Elucidat’s translation features, you can create a Multi-Language course—a single course containing multiple language versions—or separate stand-alone translated versions that you can distribute separately.
Available translation methods
Elucidat has two main methods you can use to translate your courses into different languages: Automatic and Manual.
Each method can be used freely and interchangeably. For example, you could begin with automatic translation to get the bulk of your content translated and then make smaller manual adjustments as part of a review. Read on for an explanation of each method.
Automatic
Elucidat‘s Auto-Translate feature uses machine translation to translate your course automatically.
Powered by machine-translation, Auto-Translate can automatically translate your course into one of 75 supported languages. Using Auto-Translate can be an effective time and cost saver. By providing a high-quality first-pass, you and your team can focus instead on reviewing and optimizing the content which in turn, can help you reduce your overall reliance on external agencies.
Manual
You can manually translate your course using any one of these methods.
- Using specialized translation files that essentially find-and-replace the source text with the target text defined in the file.
- Translate your course directly in the Elucidat editor. Optionally, you can use side-by-side mode to view a side-by-side comparison of the source language against the target language.
Elucidat supports a wide range of alphabets and characters which means the languages you can translate your course into is virtually limitless.
In order to render the text correctly in your course, you should ensure that the font you use supports the languages you require.
If the text is not displaying correctly, you may need to change the font. You can either select a compatible Google font in your Style or upload your own.
Course formats
You can choose to format and present your course in one of two formats: as a Multi-Language course or as individually translated courses.
Multi-Language courses
Multi-Language courses package each language version of your course into one SCORM or Online Link. A drop-down menu showing the language versions you have created will automatically be added to the beginning of your course. Learners use the menu to choose a course language before they begin.

Translating individual courses
If you'd prefer to keep your different language courses separate from each other outside of the control of a Parent course, you can translate Projects individually instead.
Translating your courses individually will mean that each of your translated courses will be separate from one another. This is useful if you're looking to make one-off translations of your content or if you'd like to create translations outside of the Parent/Variation functionality.
