You can create multilingual courses fast using Elucidat’s ‘Translation’ feature.
To use the ‘Translation feature’:
Create a ‘Master Course’ to base your Projects on.
Create a ‘Project’ for each language that you wish to translate by going to the ‘Get Started’ menu.
Selecting the ‘From one of your Master Courses?’ option:
Selecting your course (in this example the course is called ‘Translation Master Course’):
Naming your course, in this example I’ve chosen the name ‘Translation Master Course (French)’ as this is my French version:
…then clicking ‘Build it!’:
Repeat this for as many Projects as you require translations for.
Then in each ‘Project’ open the ‘Project settings’ menu and select the ‘Translation’ tab:
…then you have a choice, click the method that you would like to find out more about:
Clicking this export option will download an XLIFF 1.2 file on to your computer.
This file can then be given to your translation agency (XLIFF is a very common translation format that most translation agencies will be familiar with).
Once you have translated your XLIFF files or received them back from your agency, upload them into the corresponding projects by ‘Configure’, selecting the ‘Translation’ tab and pressing ‘Import translation file’:
Clicking this export option will download an CSV file on to your computer.
This can be opened up using a programme like Excel or Numbers.
The CSV has 4 columns, from left to right:
Page Code - This is the unique code for the Page which you are translating, if you add this code to your Project URL (e.g https://app.elucidat.com/projects/edit/582195af44f) you will go directly to the page.
Name of the element you are translating - This is a unique identifier for the element that is being translated, for example “page.title”.
Content before translation - This is the existing text content which has been inherited from your Master course.
How you would like the content to look after translation - This is what you would like your content to display after Translation.
The first three columns will already be populated with content, please do not change this content, the fourth column is empty so that you can edit straight away.
Process for CSV
Firstly download the CSV, my export looks like this:

Saving and uploading CSV
Once you have made your translations in your CSV, save it and then add it back into the Project by pressing ‘Configure’, selecting the ‘Translation’ tab and pressing ‘Import translation file’:
Please consider the following when using the translation feature:
- When you upload a file it will overwrite all the text in the project.
- You can’t export from one project and import the same file to another.
