Anonymize your learners’ data

If you have released your elearning as a SCORM for LMS or Online Link with identification switched on, your learners’ personally identifiable information (PII) will be collected when they access the course. This will usually be their name and email address.

When you view Your Data in Analyze, you’ll be able to see this information in both the dashboard and the data download.

If you’d like to prevent your learners’ PII from showing in the Your Data dashboard and download, you can choose to anonymize your learners’ data. When a learner’s data has been anonymized, their PII will be obfuscated and replaced with ‘*****’.

Note: This will only anonymize a learner’s data in Elucidat’s Analytics. This will not affect how they may appear in your LMS’s Analytics.

How does this affect my learners?

When data is anonymized, it is applied to the Project rather than a specific release.

This means that if a learner accesses any release that has been created from a Project where anonymization is enabled, their PII will be obfuscated. This will include existing learners who have already accessed a release and any new learners who will access it in the future.

This also means that once a learner has accessed an anonymized release, they will appear anonymous for all releases from that point onwards regardless of whether or not data anonymization has been enabled for that release’s corresponding Project.

It is not possible to anonymize data for a specific release. If you’d like to avoid enabling this feature but you would also like to prevent a specific release from collecting PII from your learners, then you may want to consider creating an unrestricted Online Link release instead as this release type does not collect PII.

Caution: This process is irreversible. We recommend that you consider this option carefully before enabling it. Once a Project has been anonymized, there is no way to undo this. Similarly, once a learner’s data has been anonymized, their PII will not be able to be restored. There is also no way to undo this.

Enabling anonymization in your Project

To anonymize all data collected from releases made from a Project, select the Gear icon in Your Data in the Project you’d like to anonymize:

When the Gear icon is selected, you’ll be prompted to confirm your choice. Select No if you’d like to enable data anonymisation for the Project and its releases. If you’d like to continue collecting PII for learners, select Yes:

If you select No

  • Any learners who have already taken elearning created from the anonymized Project will have their PII obfuscated from that point onwards in all instances.
  • Any new learners who have not yet been anonymized that take elearning created from the anonymized Project will have their PII obfuscated from that point onwards in all instances.
  • Any learners who have not yet been anonymized that do not take elearning created from an anonymized Project will be unaffected. However, once they access a release from an anonymized Project, they will have their PII obfuscated from that point onwards in all instances.

For more information about how we process and look after your data, see our Compliance section.

Note: When an anonymized Project is duplicated, the resulting Project will also be anonymized too. If you'd like to make a copy of your Project without anonymizing it, we recommend importing the pages into a new Project instead. To learn more about this, see Importing pages from another Project.
