If you have released your elearning as a SCORM for LMS or Online Link with identification switched on, your learners’ personally identifiable information (PII) will be collected when they access the course. This will usually be their name and email address.
When you view Your Data in Analyse, you’ll be able to see this information in both the dashboard and the data download.
If you’d like to prevent your learners’ PII from being visible in your data, you can choose to obfuscate it and make your learners anonymous. When a learner’s data has been anonymised, their name and email will be replaced with '*****’.
Learner data will only be anonymised in Elucidat’s Analytics. Applying anonymisation will not anonymise learner data in your LMS.
How does this affect my learners?
When data is anonymised, it is applied to the Project as a whole rather than any one specific release from that Project.
This means that if a learner accesses any release that has been created from a Project where anonymisation is enabled, their PII will be obfuscated. This will include existing learners who have already accessed a release and any new learners who will access it in the future.
This also means that once a learner has accessed an anonymised release, they will appear anonymous for all releases from that point onwards regardless of whether or not data anonymisation has been enabled for that release’s corresponding Project.
It is not possible to anonymise data for a specific release. If you’d like to avoid enabling this feature but you would also like to prevent a specific release from collecting PII from your learners, then you may want to consider creating an unrestricted Online Link release instead as this release type does not collect PII.
Caution: This process is irreversible. We recommend that you consider this option carefully before enabling it. Once a Project has been anonymised, there is no way to restore it. Similarly, once a learner’s data has been anonymised, their PII will not be able to be restored. |
Enabling anonymisation in your Project
Note: Only Administrators are permitted to anonymise data. |
1. Select the Gear icon in Your Data in the Project you’d like to anonymise:
2. Confirm your choice:
- No: apply data anonymisation for the Project and its releases
- Yes: continue collecting PII for learners
If you select No:
- Any learners who have already taken elearning created from the anonymised Project will have their PII obfuscated from that point onwards in all instances.
- Any new learners who have not yet been anonymised that take elearning created from the anonymised Project will have their PII obfuscated from that point onwards in all instances.
- Any learners who have not yet been anonymised that do not take elearning created from an anonymised Project will be unaffected. However, once they access a release from an anonymised Project, they will have their PII obfuscated from that point onwards in all instances.
For more information about how we process and look after your data, see our Compliance section.
Note: When an anonymised Project is duplicated, the resulting Project will also be anonymised too. If you'd like to make a copy of your Project without anonymising it, we recommend importing the pages into a new Project instead. To learn more about this, see Importing pages from another Project. |
